How do we restore trust? According to new research presented by The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), sustainability reporting has become an essential tool to help businesses and governments rebuild trust and confidence in the wake of economic collapse.

In recent years the EU has mainstreamed sustainable development into a broad range of its policies. In particular, the EU has taken the lead in the fight against climate change and the promotion of a low-carbon economy. At the same time, unsustainable trends persist in the EU in several areas and the efforts need to be intensified.

Students from Faculty of science, University of Zagreb, and also members of NGO BIUS are going to give a public lecture, actually a series of brief presentations, titled David & Goliath – Short History of Earth – Human Relationship at Novinarski Dom (Journalist House) in Zagreb on April 21 at 16:00. This is another event organized under the umbrella of EcoGreen Europe as part of the 40th Earth Day Celebration in Croatia.

Chub and pearl roach, species of carp that amongst other things eat the spawn of other fish, have forced out the trout from most habitats in the Plitvice Lakes National Park. But scientists have not yet found an answer to the question whether any species of fish is actually native to the lakes, or were they were all introduced by human hand during the 20th century. Research into their genetic origins may resolve this puzzle.

The “VELEBITSKA DEGENIJA” awards, established by APO environmental services and Croatian Journalists' Association recognize journalists who provide high quality coverage on the environmental protection subject. This year the Awards will be presented on April 22, 2010 in Novinarski Dom in Zagreb at an Awards ceremony as part of the official celebration of the Earth Day 40th Anniversary.
